Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority will set in motion offering monthly parking passes next month for commuter rail passengers. Commuters who park at MBTA-operated lots, as well as the lots in Grafton, Southboro and Westboro, could opt for monthly passes instead of stuffing dollar bills into outdated “honor boxes” every day.
Starting in February, monthly passes can be bought online with a credit card. Customers who buy monthly passes will receive a discount. Last summer, the MBTA launched a program that allows commuters to pay for parking daily using their mobile phones. Through the system, called Parkmobile, customers can pay with a smart phone application or by sending a text message or making a call from any cell phone.

“Along with the pay-by-phone system, this new customer service makes it easier than ever to pay for parking,” MBTA General Manager Richard A. Davey said in a news release. “And to make the new service even more attractive … customers who participate will receive a monthly discount of $10.”

For more information about the monthly pass will be place online at www.mbta.com, and at the MBTA’s parking lots.
