Regis Philbin Retires From His Talk Show

Regis Francis Xavier Philbin is an American media personality, occasional actor and singer, made famous for hosting talk and game shows from the 1950s up to the present time. Philbin is sometimes called "the hardest working man in show business" and holds the Guinness World Record for the most time spent in front of a television camera. With each TV appearance, he connects to his record for most hours logged (16,100, as certified by Guinness World Records in 2008). His trademarks include his excited manner, his New York Bronx accentuation, his wit, and irreverent ad-libs. He is most widely known for Live with Regis and Kelly, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Million Dollar Password, and for hosting the first season of America's Got Talent.

Regis Philbin says he's now ready to give up and retire from his morning talk show "Live with Regis and Kelly." The 79-year-old Regis Philbin announced his retirement right on his show this morning. Regis said he'll just tape his last shows toward the end of the summer, but he didn't give an exact date. During his announcement, Regis joked, "There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people."
