Scelestious comes from the Latin word "scelus (“evil deed”)" which means (1.) wicked, villainous, abominable; (2.) calamitous, unfortunate. It means wicked; also, scelestic. This has the benefit of sounding a lot like "celestious" (celestial), 'heavenly,' if you like a touch of polysemy. Scelestious also means a wicked person.
